Rail Nation

Rail Nation at an unhurried pace

Rail Nation is about moving goods from where they are to where they are wanted, on time and cheaper than the player next to you. There is no combat at all. What there is instead is a map of competing routes and a timetable that rewards thinking two deliveries ahead.

Six eras move the whole server forward together, so locomotives, demand and competition shift at once and a route that printed money last week quietly stops working. Associations carry the late game.

It is the quietest entry here and the one that most often catches people who expected to bounce off it. Optimising a network turns out to be very hard to put down.

What it quietly gets right

  • Route building
  • Train fleet
  • Economic race

Unhurried enough for

Optimisers. If a spreadsheet of delivery times sounds relaxing rather than grim, this is the one.

Too quiet if you want something to fight.

The unhurried first week

Make one route genuinely good before expanding. New players spread across the map and end up with six mediocre lines.

Join an association as soon as one will have you. The late game is built around them and the advice in the chat beats any wiki page.
